"How you doin'?"

We've all seen it. You're standing in line at the airport baggage check-in with a thousand other people, all trying to rush through so they can hurry to go sit down and wait for 2hrs.

You're finally at the front of the line and as you approach the airline agent they give you the stink-eye, grunt some instructions at you, deny your request to change seats, and shew you through like a sheep. You finally get through, breathe a sigh of relief, and immediately remind yourself why you hate flying.

Here's the thing though...is that really unexpected? You figure airline agents deal with thousands of travelers every day, and the vast majority of those encounters are completely void of quality human interaction.

Chicken meet egg...

What if you decided to take a different approach and simply looked them in the eye, smiled a little, and said, "hey there, how are you doing today?" Think you'd get a different response?

Try it. You'd be amazed how well it works. Airport people, waiters, hotel desk people, grocery store cashiers, and people whose jobs require them interact with lots of people on a daily basis are actual humans, and believe it or not, respond best to friendly human interaction. I know, mind blown.

You don't have to go full Joey Tribbiani and woo them with your charm and good looks, but treating them like your neighbor will completely change your experience. Hell, you might even meet some cool people...or dare I say it, even get that upgrade you wanted ;).
